Rotor strength analysis for high speed surface mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor with filled blocks between magnetic poles

As for the problem of no analytical solution for the rotor strength of high speed surface mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor (SPMSM) with filled blocks between magnetic poles, the rotor stress condition was simplified as a plane stress problem, and the analytical formulae for rotor strength was proposed based on the stress function method and the displacement method in polar coordinates. The rotor strength of a high speed SPMSM with filled blocks between magnetic poles was analyzed by presented analytical solution and finite element method, respectively. The effects of rotational speed, enclosure thickness and shrink range on rotor strength were further investigated based on the analytical solution of rotor strength, and the variation of rotor strength was analyzed. The results calculated by the analytical solution and finite element method are in good agreement with each other, and the analytical solution can predict the stress and displacement of the motor rotor accurately. Rotational speed, enclosure thickness and shrink range all have important effects on rotor strength. The enclosure thickness and shrink range should match the maximum speed of revolution in order to ensure the rotor strength meet the requirements.
